Guardian: Tom Petty to Open Up for Bogdanovich

The Guardian reports that film director, actor, academic, and part-time celebrity impersonator Peter Bogdanovich will go on the road with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. He’s not taking over piano duties from Benmont Tench, but rather making a documentary about the popular rock band (reportedly on their final trek). Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“I’m not an expert on Tom Petty, I’m just a fan,” the 66-year-old director said. “But what appeals to me is that he’s a real American artist – an impressionist – very much of the American grain.”

Anyone who has heard Bogdanovich’s dead-on impressions of Orson Welles or Jimmy Stewart can only imagine it’s a matter of time before he’s filling in on guest vocals for “Free Falling.”
