Village Voice Watch: Words "Meta" and "Subversive" Now Banned

The gutting of the venerable Village Voice continues: The New York Observer offers the most detailed reporting yet on the New Times’ squashing of the Voice in this story, “Can Village Voice Make It Without Its Lefty Zetz?” Not only are words like “meta” and “subversive” now banned from the paper, according to the article, and respected music editor and critic Chuck Eddy was just fired, but film-lovers will take note “the film-review budget has been cut by two-thirds,” and freelancers like myself have been essentially written out of the budget completely. On a personal note, after seven years of contributing to the paper, I believe my most recent story for the Voice — on the collapse of the AIVF — will be my last.
