MJ Peckos Leaving Tartan Films; Forming New Company

MJ Peckos is leaving Tartan Films and will form Mitropoulos Films, she announced today. In the words of an announcement, the company will “focus on the distribution and acquisition of niche market films.” She is leaving Tartan after two years, having launched the company’s theatrical unit. Releases have included “Old Boy” and “Mysterious Skin,” and numerous other titles. “The distribution business is changing at its core,” Peckos said in a statement today, “Niche product will require new venues and marketing strategies and Mitropoulos Films plans to explore this ever changing marketplace. As filmmakers continue to face the difficulties of finding distribution we hope to become a destination for them to turn to in finding an enthusiastic audience.” The former president of First Look Pictures, Peckos will continue to work with Tartan Films on its upcoming releases of “Lady Vengeance,” “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu,” “Hidden Blade,” and “In My Father’s Den.” [Eugene Hernandez]
