Zoom In On PR Maven Turned Blogger Reid Rosefelt

Reid Rosefelt, the indie film publicity guru who once owned and ran Magic Lantern PR, has begun blogging at a site called Zoom In. Rosefelt left publicity fulltime awhile ago to pursue filmmaking and other interests, but he’s never left the industry altogether, working on Oscar campaigns and unit publicity. If you don’t know Reid, indieWIRE published a lengthy interview with the publicity-meister for its Decade series a few years back (Errol Morris once said, “If publicity was a religion, and I believe it is, Reid Rosefelt would be the High Priest.”)

In his first blog, Reid writes about Snakes on a Plane and internet buzz; in the second blog, he asks filmmakers whether they’ve applied “circuit bending” — “the creative re-wiring of battery-powered electronics” — to the making of their movies.

“Has anybody tried to do this with independent films? Shmoosh around the innards of a junker video camera and see where that takes you?” he asks. “Of course we have seen Sadie Benning and Michael Almereyda’s experiments with the Fisher Price Pixelvision Camera. But that was just a low-res camera, purchased right off the (Toys ‘R’ Us) shelf. And Julie Talen pushes the margins of Final Cut with her ambitious split screen movies. But nothing like this. Has anybody been trying this? (Seriously, tell me, if you know).” You can let him know here.
