Now Playing — Borzage!

Now Playing -- Borzage!

Janey Gaynor and Charles Farrell in 7th Heaven

Yes, you do have more options this weekend than seeing Lady in the Water. If you haven’t been already, don’t forget to check out Nick Pinkerton’s ongoing coverage of New York’s Museum of the Moving Image’s phenomenal series, Frank Borzage: Hollywood Romantic. If last weekend’s showings of the tender, beautifully acted, and difficult to find tearjerker Lucky Star and the noir-tinged, gloomily Southern, incredibly well crafted Moonrise are any indication, then this is a retrospective worth returning to every weekend. This weekend, you can see the scorchingly hot The River, from 1929, with Mary Duncan and Borzage regular Charles Farrell, along with a host of other long unseen gems.

Additionally, we’d like to take the time to mention that our coverage of Frank Borzage: Hollywood Romantic inaugurates a brand new section in Reverse Shot, listed on our menu under Retro. Check back weekly for updates on movies playing in retrospective film series, both in New York and around the country. Upcoming festivals include those of Mizoguchi, Almodóvar, and Frank Tashlin.
