Fight for Ratings Accountability: Petition the MPAA

As part of his ongoing mission to fight the evils of the Motion Picture Association of America, especially the MPAA’s Ratings Board, Oscar-nominated director Kirby Dick has launched an online petition in advance of the release of his new documentary “This Film is Not Yet Rated,” together with distributor IFC. Go over to the petition and sign on up. Dick promises movement on other fronts in his battle against censorship, along with an update soon.

My interview with Dick for Filmmaker Magazine, “Watching the Detectives” is currently online. And while Dick’s insights into the Kafkaesque ratings board is illuminating, I urge readers to scroll down to the bottom of the interview where he explains his employment of “fair use” for all media clips, a subject taken up in a recent and must-read New York Times article.
