'Host' and 'Severance' Added to Fantastic Fest

This just in… I recently blogged about some new titles added to the 2006 lineup of Fantastic Fest. Well, I’m happy to say that some more are starting to fall together as well. I just got word from Magnolia that we have both The Host and Severance for the festival. I’ve been writing about The Host, a wildly entertaining and effective Korean monster movie, since Cannes. When I say “Korean monster movie,” I mean it’s like a Korean version of Tremors, a bloody and scary homage to the B-movie monsters of the Corman golden age.

Severance I just recently saw (it’s also scheduled to play Toronto), and dig. Some of the press material, and the UK trailer, sell it as a sort of Shaun of the Dead rip-off, which is highly inaccurate. It’s more a straightforward, cabin-in-the-woods slasher film with a few very funny moments. Anyway, look for more titles to to join these as the homestretch of Fantastic Fest prep is upon us. And, you can check out Scott Weinberg’s coincidental Cinematical post from yesterday, about Magnolia acquiring these two fantastic films.
