Hang out with a group of acquisitions execs at a film fest and it won’t be long before you start hearing about all movies they are passing on (that is they won’t be recommending them to higher ups at their companies). Buyers sometimes travel en masse to industry screenings and then compare notes with competitors at late-night parties, running down the roster of what they’ve seen and dictating the casualties: “It’s a pass for us…” (and they keep relatively quiet about the films they really like).

In the case of the festival’s opening night movie, “The Journals of Knud Rasmussen” (from the director of the acclaimed “Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner“. Late night Thursday, at the Park Hyatt bar (the industry’s favorite Toronto watering hole), after seeing the new movie a group of buyers had a little fun with the film’s title, branding it: The Journals of DUD PASSmussen.

(I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t offer an opinion, but we wrote a bit about the film in our opening day fest article.)
