AWARDS WATCH: "Volver" and "The Lives of Others" Lead European Film Award Nominations

The nominees for the European Film Awards were announced at the Seville Film Festival today, with Pedro Almodovar‘s “Volver” from Spain and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck‘s “The Lives of Others” from Germany dominating the nominations. Each received six nods, including a nomination for best European film of the year. Ken Loach‘s “The Wind That Shakes the Barley,” a co-production of multiple countries, received five nominations. Selected in the race for Best European Film were Neil Jordan’s “Breakfast on Pluto,” Jasmila Zbanic’s “Grbavica,” von Donnersmarck’s “The Lives of Others,” Michael Winterbottom And Mat Whitecross’s “The Road To Guantanamo,” “Volver,” and “The Wind That Shakes The Barley.” 1,700 EFA members will vote to select the winners of the annual prizes, to be presented on December 2nd in Warsaw, Poland.
