That “whew” sound you may have heard coming from Central Texas, was the cast and crew of NBC’s Austin-filmed series, Friday Night Lights. After some of the best reviews this season, the football-drama series struggled to find a big audience, but it found enough of one for NBC to announce Monday that it would order a full first season of episodes. This gives the series until May to try and develop the faithful audience it deserves. And, thankfully, this will keep some of Austin’s crew community, in a job for a while longer. Variety reports:
Kyle Chandler starrer has attracted stellar reviews and did decent numbers when NBC tested it Mondays at 10 late last month. Because of that, NBC Entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly said the full-season renewal was an easy call.
“We gave it probably the toughest hour on the schedule and yet, while it’s been doing modest ratings, it’s been holding its own,” Reilly told Daily Variety. “If you hang on to good work, eventually the word gets around.”
