One of the most critically acclaimed American films of the year, John Cameron Mitchell’s Shortbus, will see its soundtrack released on November 7 courtesy of Conor Oberst’s Team Love label.
And, from the looks of it, the soundtrack will be just as sweeping/challenging/magical as the film itself. What’s more, I’ve always felt that Shortbus is, in some strange way, a musical of its own. It’s not your standard Sondheim fare, of course, but is nevertheless an odyssey of the mind and eyes that uses sex scenes as if they were musical performances.
The lengthy soundtrack will feature tunes by some wonderful indie-rock artists, including: Yo La Tengo, The Ark, Animal Collective, and Azure Ray. Plus, you’ll be able to find some of the beautiful songs from the film’s unsung star, musician Scott Matthew. Pitchfork has the full details.
