Take a Music Break From AFM/AFI

Like many folks in the international film community (some already there), I’m headed to L.A. soon for the American Film Market (AFM) and the 20th AFI Fest. But, as I usually do when visiting L.A., I had to get the scoop on what touring shows would be coming through the Los Angeles area during these film events. My best memory of AFM/AFI’s past, is when Richard Linklater, John Pierson, Dana Harris, and I went to see Guided By Voices and Brian Jonestown Massacre at the Henry Fonda Theater. In other words, if you’re looking for a musical detour during your time at the 2006 editions of AFM and AFI, here’s what I suggest:

November 4
– The Who @ the Hollywood Bowl
– The Knife @ El Rey Theater

November 5
– The Who @ the Hollywood Bowl
– Modest Mouse @ Avalon

November 6
– Modest Mouse @ The Wiltern

November 7
– Joan Jett & the Blackhearts @ Henry Fonda Theater
– Lee “Scratch” Perry @ House of Blues
– Tahiti 80 with Brookville @ The Troubadour
– Aerosmith with Motley Crue @ the Hollywood Bowl
– New York Dolls @ Avalon

November 8
– Raul Malo @ Roxy
– Pet Shop Boys @ The Wiltern
– Ian McLagan and the Bump Band @ The Mint
– Courtney Love booksigning @ Vroman’s Bookstore

November 9
– Deftones @ Avalon
– Pet Shop Boys @ The Wiltern
– Golden Arm Trio @ Tangier
– Ray LaMontagne @ Orpheum Theater

Enjoy!
