Hubbel Palmer

Hubbel Palmer

File this under “small world”… About a week ago, I got an email from Napoleon Dynamite producer (and Texas native) Jeremy Coon. Jeremy brought to my attention a new film of his to consider, a project called American Fork, that would be premiering at Slamdance this year. A quick IMDB search later, I noticed that this new film is written by, and stars, a guy named Hubbel Palmer. Small world.

About six years ago, I was dating a girl who attended BYU. I went to stay with her and, abiding by BYU rules, there is no co-ed sleepovers if you are enrolled in the school. So, my then-girlfriend had me crash on the floor for five days of a fellow BYU student I’d never met. His name was Hubbel Palmer. My memory of Hubbel was that he was a really friendly film fan. We bonded over a shared love of movies, and it turned out to be a totally pleasant experience despite the “stranger factor.”

I got back to Jeremy right away to let him know the connection. He spoke to Hubbel, who replied “Oh yeah, isn’t this guy (me) in love with the movie Sunset Boulevard?” I am. Small world. I look forward to reuniting with Hubbel in Park City, and maybe elsewhere…
