Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, along with the Film Society and Unifrance USA, has announced the 2007 line-up for the 12th Annual Showcase of new French filmmaking. The program includes 16 new French films, all of which will be making their U.S. debuts. “La Vie en Rose,” directed by Oliver Dahan, will open the showcase. The film portrays Edith Piaf‘s rise from the streets of Paris to becoming one of the world’s most reputable entertainers, and stars Marian Cotillard and Gerard Depardieu. Closing the festival is Francis Verber‘s “The Valet,” a comedy about the uses and misuses of celebrity. “The Valet” features Daniel Auteuil and Kristin Scott Thomas.
