Heading up the mountain from Salt Lake City to Park City, UT today, I realized that this is my 14th Sundance Film Festival…wow, someone’s getting old. As indieWIRE embarks on what is perhaps our most ambitious coverage of the festival so far, I was thinking that each year we try something new at Sundance — this has always been the fest where we experiment, launch or test new products and services. This year, in addition to our daily dispatches, feature pieces, iPOP photos, filmmaker diaries, and email interviews with some 40 directors, we’ll be reviewing all 32 films in the U.S. competition and producing a video podast episode daily from the festival. The best place to get the latest is iW’s special Park City section.
We arrived in Utah on Tuesday morning and checked into a condo that already feels a bit too small and swiftly set up computer work stations for four (and we’ll have three assistants joining us tomorrow). indieWIRE blogger and filmmaker Scott Westphal-Solary, who is producing our daily video series, offers on his blog, a nice preview of our video plans that came together quickly last week after we signed Fox Searchlight as sponsor.
OK, after staying up all night before today’s early morning flight and then a long day of prep work today, its time to turn in. Here’s to Sundance ’07!
