Sundance 2007.1: Tangled Up in Blue

Perez and Spooky and Screech… oh my!

So, we’re here in Park City. After some horrible delays trying to fly here (gotta love the ice storms!), Jarod and I finally landed in Salt Lake, and made our way to Park City for Sundance. We arrived too late for the Opening Night Film, Brett Morgen’s Chicago 10, so we instead checked into our condo and went to have a nice chilli dinner with a sizable group or industry friends. It was a great way to ease our way into the blizzard of activity, here in the moutains of Utah.

On Friday morning, we got up to get our credentials and get settled. Our SXSW sponsorship manager, Scott McNearney, joined us midday and we started going over schedules, and also prepping for a cocktail party we had at the Village at the Lift, with a little help from Fox Greenberg PR and Hpnotiq (the legendary, blue cocktail-in-a-bottle). It turned out to be a lot of fun, with a good crowd coming out to show some love. It was especially great to run into the filmmakers of some of our favorite films at Sundance and Slamdance this year, including Amir Bar-Lev (My Kid Could Paint That), Grace Lee (American Zombie), and the crew from Sundance midnighter The Signal.

Plus, there were tons of industry friends both new and old, and even the occasional random celeb sighting. There was a downer when a group of actors not-to-be-named, from a film not-to-be-named (that we were really excited about seeing), turned up to the party and then decided to leave once they realize we weren’t giving away free clothes… But three in attendance that I will reference, because they all work in pseudonyms, were DJ Spooky, Perez Hilton, and Screech (a.k.a. Dustin Diamond). We all sampled some of the tasty blue cocktails and walked away with rather nice Hpnotiq umbrellas. All in all, a fun time, and we owe it all to publicist Michelle Fox. The three of us are back at the condo now for a breather, before heading back out in the first official night of Sundance 2007.
