The Shins on ‘SNL’

The Shins on 'SNL'

If you, like me, were kinda stunned that The Shins had been booked as the musical guest for an episode of Saturday Night Live this past weekend, we’re apparently not alone. Rolling Stone‘s “Rock Daily” blog covers this momentous event (the first time a Sub Pop Records band was ever on the 30-year old, rock-TV staple), including some emotional moments for the band:

Bassist Dave Hernandez – clutching a much-emptied glass at the after-party – pointed out his mother mingling amidst SNL cast members like Amy Poehler and Andy Samberg and admitted that he got a little emotional towards the end of the show. “Afterwards, when we were doing that hugging thing,” Hernandez recalled, “it was like ‘Whoa, my mom is here. My mom let me stay up late to watch Elvis Costello on SNL when I was a kid and now she’s here.’”
