WMM Gets Sundance Doc, "Enemies of Happiness"

Eva Mulvad and Anja Al Erhayem‘s Danish documentary “Enemies of Happiness,” which won the Silver Wolf competition at IDFA and had its recent debut in the world documentary competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, has been acquired by Women Make Movies, organization head Debbie Zimmerman announced today. The film profiles a controversial young woman (Malalai Joya) who ran for election Afghanistan’s first parliamentary elections in 35 years back in 2005. Describing the film, Sundance programmer Caroline Libresco wrote about the film, “Protected by armed guards, Joya heads to poor rural areas to address crowds of women, pledging to be their voice and ‘expose the enemies of peace, women and democracy’. In the presence of her fierce tenacity, we can imagine the future of an enlightened nation.” [Eugene Hernandez]
