A few weeks ago, Nicolas Lopez emailed me to say how excited he was that we were premiering a new Chilean film by some friends of his, a great feature called Scrambled Beer. In that same email, he mentioned how much he was loving his new film, especially because had a bigger canvas to play with.
I love Nicolas Lopez. The young Chilean filmmaker was a big hit at SXSW 2005, when we hosted the North American Premiere of his crowd-pleaser, Promedio Rojo. In fact, it was that premiere where the foundation of what became Fantastic Fest, was really laid out as far as I was concerned. But, Lopez himself is also so charming, he’s easy to love. Like a young Guillermo del Toro, he’s bright, funny, and totally perverse.
His upcoming feature is called Santos, and it’s currently in post-production back in Chile. And, check it out: Harry Knowles (another big Lopez fan) has posted the new trailer on AICN. Looks like Nicolas had stepped up his skills. I can’t wait to see it.
