"Flatlife" Takes Grand Jury Prize at New York Children's Fest

Belgian director Jonas Geirnaert‘s “Flatlife” won the grand prize at the New York International Children’s Film Festival over the weekend, with Swedish director Peter Barlach‘s “Sneakers” receiving a special jury award. “The Fan and the Flower” by Bill Plympton won the audience award in the 3 to 6 age group, while in the 5 – 10 group, both “Journey to Mars” by Juan Pablo Zaramella (Argentina) and Christopher Sadler‘s “Shaun the Sheep” (U.K.) tied (“Sheep” also took the Parents’ choice prize). “Flatlife” received the audience nod in 8 – 14, and 12 – 18 went to “Wat a Wonderful Day.” [Brian Brooks]
