Boston 2007.4: Yes For Sure

Boston 2007.4: Yes For Sure

As much fun as this year’s Independent Film Festival Boston has been, I’m ready to get back home and get back to normal. It’s about 3:45 a.m. right now, and I have to leave for the airport by 5:00… so, no sleep for me. I’ll try to nap on the flight, and Jarod, Lya, and Wendy: I’m gonna be a little late to work Monday… gonna try to rest before I come into the office. I’m ready for some normal.

The festival concludes on Monday, and the awards have been announced. More on that later (in my indieWIRE wrap-up), but the big Jury Prize winners were Julia Loktev’s narrative feature Day Night Day Night, Seth Gordon’s documentary feature King of Kong, and Moon Molson’s short Pop Foul. Thanks, Adam and Jason and the IFFB staff. It was a blast! Here’s the final pics:

(‘Monkey Warfare’ director Reg Harkema chills out in the Filmmakers Lounge. His acclaimed Canadian feature won a Special Jury Prize at IFFB.)

(At Sunday night’s awards ceremony/party, held at Ivy Restaurant, we were all hypnotized by the eyes of ‘Guatemalan Handshake’ director Todd Rohal, far left, here along with ‘Low and Behold’ writer/star Barlow Jacobs, ‘Low and Behold’ producer Sarah Hendler, and ‘Hannah Takes the Stairs’ director Joe Swanberg.)

(Boston-based band UV Protection delivered their art-project-pop to attendees at the shindig.)

(At the awards party, ‘Boston Phoenix’ film critic Gerald Peary relaxes with ‘Monkey Warfare’ co-star, and Canadian film icon, Don McKellar.)

(Austin’s own Steve Collins received a special mention from the IFFB organizers, for his feature, ‘Gretchen.’ With it, came this free Apple TV. Nice.)

(One of the highlights of the entire weekend was a surprise performance at the party, by Austrian synth-pop duo, Bob The Band. They just came over for their first stateside trip, and were welcomed with open arms from many of us. Todd Rohal and Michael Tully have been spreading the gospel of Bob The Band for months… and now, they are here for us to behold. If you live in the NYC area, the duo are scheduled to perform Wednesday night in Brooklyn. YES FOR SURE.)
