Cine Las Americas Begins This Weekend

The 10th Annual Cine Las Americas Film Festival kicks off Thursday night in Austin, for some of the best in recent Latino and Indigenous cinema of the Americas. The opening night film is the Mexican drama, El Violin, which launches a slew of screenings around town. Other highlights I heartily recommend are: August Evening, Ghosts of Cite Soleil, Madeinusa, Ya Basta!, Inside the Circle, Weaving Worlds, and Maquilapolis. Special guests scheduled to attend, include: actor Gerardo Taracena, filmmaker Larry Blackhorse Lowe, and Sundance programmer Bird Runningwater. I’ll be in Atlanta, but if you’re in Austin, you should be at Cine Las Americas.
