‘Grindhouse,’ what happened?

'Grindhouse,' what happened?

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse more or less stiffed at the box office this weekend… bringing in just over $11 million to finish fourth behind Blades of Glory, Meet The Robinsons, and Are We Done Yet? What happened? Was it:

a. The “R” rating?
b. The three-hour length that limited it to four showings (versus the normal five) every day?
c. The lack of online advertising?
d. The surprise success of 300, only four weeks earlier, but still holding strong?
e. The lack of any A-list star power (Rose McGowan and Kurt Russell are hardly Uma Thurman and Johnny Depp)?
f. Opening the film on a religious, family-friendly holiday weekend?
g. all of the above?

It’s really too bad. The film deserved better, way better.
