I really liked the season premiere of The Sopranos. In 60 minutes, it embodied what is terrific about this show: otherwise mundane family events (in this case, a weekend getaway with relatives) are given dark punctuations because of the mob settings. SPOILER: We knew Bobby would have to kill someone soon, but the fact that it became an obligation from that unexpected fistfight, gave it all the more impact. Meanwhile, all the discussion of parental baggage from this and many other episodes, means a helluva lot more after reading this thorough Vanity Fair profile of Sopranos creator David Chase.
