Back to IndieWire

in cannes | it begins

Over the next two days a number of publications (including indieWIRE), will write stories saying that the Cannes Film Festival starts on Wednesday. Don’t believe the lies. The fest actually started today (Monday). Or at least it opened for business this morning…

Its 1:30 am local time as I post this and I have to put off a ton of work so that I can get a few hours sleep before I need to be back in our office at the Palais for various appointments and writing/editing. Scenes like the one pictured above (at the International Village) were common… I spotted a large flatbed truck wheeling in tall potted trees to spruce up the surroundings along La Croisette. But, inside the Palais and at various hotels around town, insiders are already on the ground, working hard. I chatted with a few companies today who have already scheduled a full day of meetings for Tuesday. Our office, a shared space with Le Film Francais where we are collaborating on the Cannes Market News print dailies during the festival, was bustling well into the evening. More on that in the days to come…
