iW MARKET NEWS | Strand Gets "Irina Palm"

Surely not a second-hand movie! A Berlinale 2007 sensation, Sam Garbarski‘s “Irina Palm” has just been sold by Pyramide International to Strand Releasing for a U.S. release on the arthouse circuit. No release date has been set. The movie has already been sold in most major territories worldwide since its Berlinale debut, including: Italy (Teodora), Germany (X-Verleih), Spain (Golem), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Scandinavian territories (Sandrew Metronome), Poland (Gutek Films), Brazil (Imovision), Mexico (Cine TV & Video) and Taiwan (Swallow Wings). Only two major territories are still unsold: discussions are underway in Japan and rights in the UK are being negotiated. “In all, said Eric Lagesse, Managing Director of Pyramide International, the movie has been sold to over 30 territories.” Released last week in France on 100 prints, the movie starring Marianne Faithfull has attracted 55,000 people into the theaters here. With three movies in Competition, one Out of Competition , two at the Directors’ Fortnight and three at the Critics’ Week, Pyramide International is anticipating strong selling activity in Cannes. On Tuesday, Pyramide secured a deal with Teodora Films (Italy) for the distribution of Lucia Puenzo‘s “XXY,” a movie produced by Historias Cinematograficas (headed by Luis Puenzo) and coproduced by Pyramide Productions and Wanda Films.
