iW NEWS | Sundance Doc Program Selects 25 Features for Funding

A record number twenty-five feature films have been chosen to receive financial grants from the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Fund, the organization announced today. In the words of The Sundance Institute, the organization supports U.S. and international documentaries that “explore the issues of our time with innovative, compelling storytelling.” Films selected for funding include: Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman‘s “Howl” ($10,000), Christopher McLeod‘s “Losing Sacred Ground” ($10,000), Caveh Zahedi‘s “The Prime Minister, The Shah, The Ayatollah and I” ($7,500), Jean-Marie Teno‘s “The Fo and I” ($10,000), Susan Stern‘s “Our Oil” ($10,000), Frederik Gertten‘s “Poison in a Banana Republic” ($10,000), James Longley‘s “Untitled Iran Project” ($10,000), Peter Raymont‘s “A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman” ($30,000), Susan Motamed and Melanie Judd‘s “Adopt Me, Michael Jordan” ($30,000), Sandhya Suri‘s “Devi” ($35,000), Sabiha Sumar‘s “Dinner With The President” ($15,000), Jehane Noujaim‘s “Egypt: We See You” ($30,000), Natalia Almada‘s “El General” ($30,000), Dee Rees‘ “Eventual Salvation” ($30,000), Andres Habegger‘s “Final Image” ($20,000), Landon Van Soest‘s “Good Fortune” ($25,000), Supriyo Sen‘s “Hope Dies Last In War” ($15,000), Kasim Abid‘s “My Baghdad Family” ($45,000), James Rutenbeck‘s “Scenes From a Parish” ($25,000), Gary Weimberg and Catherine Ryan‘s “Soldiers of Conscience” ($30,000), Edet Belzberg and Alan Oxman‘s “The Army Recruiter” ($35,000), Kirby Dick‘s “The Glass Closet” ($50,000), Katrina Browne‘s “Traces of the Trade” ($45,000), Lei Iskander‘s “We Are The Zaballeen” ($30,000), and Christopher Wong‘s “Whatever It Takes” ($25,000).
