Silverdocs 2007.2: This Land is Your Land

Opening night of Silverdocs included Jim (not the football player) Brown’s documentary, Pete Seeger: The Power of Song. It was a great way to kick off the fest, as the doc is an entertaining and uplifting document of the legendary folk singer. A lot of fun, and really charming. The film even had the audience singing and clapping along, at various points. Meanwhile, my jury duty is kicking into high gear, and of course I will not write about that whole process nor the films I’m watching for the competition. Nonetheless, I expect there to be plenty to share. Here are some pics from Opening Night:

(Scene from a jury dinner. On Tuesday night, the various jurors met up for a meal at the great local spot, Jackie’s.)

(At the Opening Night Party, a folk band called The Mammals – which features Pete Seeger’s grandson Tao – gathered for a quick set.)

(Kicking back at the Opening Night Party, which was held at Discovery Channel HQ, are Newport Film Festival’s David Nugent and Red Envelope Entertainment’s Liesl Copland.)

(AOL True Stories buyer Andrew Mer and documentary filmmaker/blogger Doug Block chill out at the soiree before we all head home to start the week off right.)
