SXSW 2007 crowd-and-critic-pleaser, Kurt Cobain About A Son, has announced a theatrical distribution deal with Balcony Releasing. indieWIRE reports that the artful and award-winning documentary by AJ (where are those SILVERDOCS photos??) Schnack, will open in New York on October 3, followed quickly by openings in L.A. and Seattle. Hopefully, more cities will follow, because seeing this film on the big screen (as I did at Toronto last year) is an engrossing experience.
No news yet on DVD release plans, but you can be sure those updates will be offered up on AJ’s new blog for the film, once it’s official. I can’t imagine any fan of Nirvana and/or Cobain himself, not owning a DVD copy of this documentary. For starters, I’m sure AJ and company are gonna load that thing will some essential extras. Meanwhile, for a grin, check out Mr. Schnack’s official/personal blog for some photos and thoughts from when he screened the film at SXSW in March.
