Chocolate Outrage: Monstrous. Furious. Curious?

Chocolate Outrage: Monstrous. Furious. Curious?

(The latest “1-18-08” poster.)

Everything and nothing have happened in the last month, around JJ Abrams’ mysterious new project, codename: “Cloverfield.” Everyone was sure Abrams would spill the beans during a recent appearance at Comic-Con, but he didn’t offer much to explain the film. But, more on that in a bit. Last night, a reliable source emailed me the following: “[my roommate] was just downtown and walked by the set of JJ Abrams’ ‘Cloverfield’ and they were apparently blowing stuff up and breaking concrete and stuff… and the crew were wearing badges that read ‘Chocolate Outrage.'” Chocolate Outrage, eh? Sounds like a Willy Wonka sequel to me…

But, seriously, more scoops have started to pour down. The above poster (courtesy of AICN) is the latest in an expectedly cryptic poster campaign. The first, featured the same image but with the word “Monstrous,” which led many disappointed fanboys to speculate, “are we really huffing and puffing for a movie with a title that lazy?” Abrams, though, crushed those rumors on his Comic-Con panel, declaring: “Do you think we’d call it ‘Monstrous’? No.” (courtesy of the MTV Movies Blog) He also added, “We need our own Godzilla.” Hmmmk. Whatever.

Otherwise, all’s been kinda quiet with more speculation flowing from eager citizens of the world. The latest, on an earlier blog post of mine, coming yesterday from “GaryP” who exclaimed:

“This movie is going to be a remake of a 1953 movie called ‘The Beast From a 20,000 Fathoms’. This was the movie that started everything, including Godzilla. The original story line reads… [As a result of an arctic nuclear test, a carnivorous dinosaur thaws out and starts making its way down the east coast of North America. Soon thereafter the rhedosaurus emerges from the sea and lays waste to Manhattan Island until a scientist comes up with a plan to try to stop the seemingly indestructible beast.] The original poster for this movie has a guy screaming ‘It’s Alive’ and in the new trailer there is a guy that scream ‘It’s Alive, It’s Huge’, which is I belive a hint to the origin of the movie. I Know I’m Right!!!!”

At this point, it’s anyone’s guess, really. There’s only one thing you can bet on: we’re gonna find out sometime between now and 1-18-08.
