Fest Central: Cinematexas R.I.P.

Over at Variety‘s revamping “Fest Central Blog,” Mike Jones checks in about the grim status of the Cinematexas International Short Film Festival, which is (in their words) going “into semi-permanent hibernation.” The University of Texas film event will always have a very special place in my heart, as it was pretty much where I got my start doing any sort of actual festival work. It’s also where I first met people like Bryan Poyser, Kyle Henry, Greg Gilpatrick and Angela Lee, who would whisk me off to work with her at a festival called SXSW. In fact, the anecdote Mike shares about hanging with Werner Herzog years ago at the San Jose, is also the place I met Mike and his wife Maya, for the first time. Sad news.
