The IFC Center’s upcoming two-week, indie-film extravaganza, “The New Talkies: Generation DIY,” now has a day-by-day schedule. Check out the official Web site of the series to get showtimes and dates for each participating film. As reported a few times on this blog, everything kicks off on August 22 in New York with the theatrical premiere of Joe Swanberg’s SXSW 2007 selection, Hannah Takes the Stairs (trailer below):
If you’re in the area, come down on Opening Night and the Opening Weekend, there should be a slew of special guests to present Hannah Takes the Stairs. Maybe I’ll even come up for the festivities… Hannah will play for a week, along with Andrew Bujalski’s Funny Ha Ha, the Duplass Brothers’ The Puffy Chair, Swanberg’s first film, Kissing on the Mouth, and more. Then, on August 29, the series gets a second wind with the theatrical premiere of Aaron Katz’s SXSW 2007 selection, Quiet City (trailer below):
Quiet City plays at the IFC Center for a week, along with other “New Talkies” selections such as Frank V. Ross’ Hohokam, Bujalski’s Mutual Appreciation, and more. And if all this was not enough, indieWIRE has announced a special panel session to occur 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, at the Apple Store in Soho. It’s a session called “An Evening with Generation DIY,” and panelists will include Swanberg, Katz, Hannah star Greta Gerwig, Benten Films buyer Aaron Hillis, and moderator Eugene Hernadez of indieWIRE. Sounds mumblerific.
