On the Lot and As You Like It: It's On Television

Anyone as excited as I am about the On the Lot Finale tonight on Fox?

Wake Me Up When the Series Ends
I thought not…

How ironic is it that a group of filmmakers have been selling their souls on television to get a job making films for the silver screen…

…meanwhile, premiering on television (it’s not television, its HBO)…

… is the latest Shakespeare adaptation by Kenneth Branagh, As You Like It.

It seems like it was only 1989 when the young was tearing up the box office, and earning Oscar nominations (acting and directing!) for his gritty BIG SCREEN cinematic take on Henry V.

Diminishing Domestic US Gross for Branaugh’s Shakespeare Movies
Henry V (1989, Samuel Goldwyn) $10.1 million
Much Ado About Nothing (1993, Samuel Goldwyn) $22 million
Hamlet (1996, Columbia Pictures) $4.4 million
Love’s Labour’s Lost (2000, Miramax) $284,291
