Premiere Status (part 3)

Premiere Status (part 3)

As my obsession with the semantics of Film Festival Premiere Status compulsively grows into a full-fledged disorder, I was delighted by this quote in the Variety article “Toronto hosts lineup of premieres”:

“Four of the pics are world preems and one is a North American premiere, though the fest has this year been de-emphasizing the premiere status of its films. It’s all in the name of accuracy, said fest brass, since that status can change between the time the pic is programmed and its screening date.” (Italics mine)

Not to take themselves completely out of the pissing contest, Toronto International Film Festival’s co-director Noah Cowan adds: “Like every festival, premieres do matter to us … We’re saying we’re the only major festival in the world that entertains films that aren’t world premieres.”
