And they're off... Toronto Begins with Few New Foreign Must-Sees

Because there simply just aren’t enough journalists covering Toronto (note: sarcasm), I felt like I had to contribute some initial thoughts on the fest in today’s indieWIRE article “Foreign Flicks Checklist“. I’ve done my best to scour the lineup, examine early reviews and buzz and pick a total of 11 world-cinema world-premiering fall fest entries that I think deserve a look. Korean actor-director Lee Kang Sheng’s “Help Me Eros” has since been slammed by Variety, but I’m still holding out hope. And while I admit I added a couple of broad French films (“La Douxieme Souffle,” “A Girl Cut in Two”) that probably aren’t exactly my taste, I’d bet distributors will be following those films closely. But then again, like every year, the ones to watch going in are rarely the ones to watch going out.
