Fall Festivals: Fantastic Around the Corner

I’ve been super busy and super exhausted while in New York for the IFP Market. The back-to-back Toronto/ACL/IFP marathon has winded me a bit. But I’m getting my second wind, and prepping for this weekend’s launch of the third annual Fantastic Fest in Austin. Things are kicking off early on Wednesday night, with a special screening of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and star Casey Affleck in attendance. That’s just a primer to the official Opening Night on Thursday, with George A. Romero presenting his latest, Diary of the Dead.

From that point on, it’s a non-stop celebration of genre cinema. And just wait till you find out what some of the super surprise secret screenings will be (there are four total throughout the week). You’ll have to be there to discover them first hand. I was chatting with someone last night in New York who was trying to figure out a way to describe Fantastic Fest’s programming and vibe. And while I’ve never been to either, I took a leap of faith, and said “It’s sort of like Comic-Con meets Telluride.” We’ll see if I’m right…
