“Control” on a Roll

"Control" on a Roll

6a00c22524fdc7549d00d4143b48973c7f-500pi.gifNot on is Anton Corbjin‘s Joy Division docudrama doing serious damage in its limited release (winning the per screen average race two weekends in a row), but this morning it led the British Independent Film Award nominations with a record 10 nods, including best film, best director, best screenplay and acting nods for Sam Riley and Samantha Morton. Though BIFA’s probably don’t have much clout in the overall race, Control‘s likely too cool for Oscar anyway, as is David Cronenberg‘s Eastern Promises, which also got a bunch of deserved nominations (included Viggo, who needs to win something simply for that one sequence). Also notable was the complete non-U.S. invasion of the Foreign Independent Film award, which included The Lives of Others and my beloved Once. And kudos to Ross for getting nominated for Best Debut Director for Run Fat Boy Run.

The complete nominations after the jump.
