Mumblecore and Taco Journalism are “Best of Austin”

Mumblecore and Taco Journalism are "Best of Austin"

Last night was the annual “Best of Austin” party, hosted by The Austin Chronicle in honor of their latest issue dedicated to detailing the very best Austin has to offer. Picked by both readers and critics, the results can be found in this week’s copy of the Chronicle. SXSW Film Festival showed up to represent, as various members of the staff received awards. In the Arts & Entertainment category, SXSW accepted the “Biggest Movement” Critics’ Prize for Mumblecore. While we had nothing to do with making the films in this “movement,” we were happy to accept on behalf of the filmmakers. And hey, Hannah Takes the Stairs and LOL co-conspirator Kevin Bewersdorf was there, so that kinda counts!

Over in the Food & Drink category, SXSW’s Jarod Neece and Justin Bankston were awarded the “Best Way To Find a Decent Taco” prize for their essential new blog, Taco Journalism. The party itself featured a terrific spread of food by local eateries such as Curra’s, Zen, and Austin Java Company… but there was an apparent lack of tacos. Good thing the margaritas flowed like… wine.
