Today in the world of Hollywood development announcements:
Meryl Streep has been cast as Julia Child and Amy Adams as a mastercook wannabe in Julie & Julia, to be written and directed by Nora Ephron. I’m skeptical. Is this a hypothetical biopic? Or did this really happen? And Nora Ephron hasnt been up to par as a director as of late.
Julia Roberts and Clive Owen will reteam for Duplicity, which will be Tony Gilroy‘s directorial follow-up to Michael Clayton. In the movie, Roberts and Owen will play longtime lovers who happened to work as spies on opposite sides. They team up to stage an elaborate con to rip off corporations and steal a valuable product. Kinda seems like Closer meets Mr and Mrs Smith.
And finally, in desperation news, James Vanderbilt has been hired to write the screenplay for Spider-Man 4. The news comes even though there is no word of a deal that any of the series stars or director Sam Raimi will return. Just let it die, Sony, please…
