With a score of 94 on Metacritic.com, The Coen Brothers‘ No Country For Old Men ranks as the 10th best reviewed film on the site, which certainly bodes well for its Oscar chances (I’m guessing it will at the very least win most of the critics’ awards for best picture). Its actually playing in Montreal as of today (as is 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, which I found strange since it doesnt seem to playing anywhere in the U.S. or in Toronto or Vancouver), so I’ll finally get to see it. Notable is the nine films that beat it on Metacritic.com’s all time list – a very strange bunch:
The Godfather is tops, yes, but Superman II is at #2? Army of Shadows, Pan’s Labyrinth and Dr. Strangelove round out the top 5, with this year’s Ratatouille at #6, the original Manchurian Candidate at #7, Pulp Fiction at #8 and Killer of Sheep (also this year) at #9.
I dare the AFI to make that their next top ten films of all time.
