iW NEWS | Weekend Estimates: "4 Months" Soars To Top Of iW BOT

According to indieWIRE Box Office Tracking (iW BOT) estimates from Rentrak, Cristian Mungiu‘s “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” is set to top this week’s iW BOT. The IFC Films release grossed $48,200 on just 2 screens, averaging $24,100. Also opening was Jieho Lee‘s ThinkFilm release, “The Air I Breathe,” which took in $21,500 on 7 screens, for an average of $3,071. Several Academy Award nominees expanded, with Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “There Will Be Blood” the per-theatre-average leader. “Blood” added 496 screens for a 885 screen total, grossing $4.88 million for an average of $5,522. The film now stands with a $14.76 million total. Joel and Ethan Coen‘s DGA-winning “No Country For Old Men” added 289 screens to gross $2.50 million, averaging $2,261 and bringing its cumulative gross to $52.03 million, while Joe Wright‘s “Atonement” took in $3.96 million on 1,400 screens, averaging $2,832 and totalling $37.91 million. Meanwhile, Jason Reitman‘s “Juno” rode a best picture nomination to top $100 million over the weekend, grossing 3.5% more this weekend than last, despite actually losing 108 screens. indieWIRE publishes its weekly box office column on Mondays and final weekend numbers for specialty and limited release films on Tuesdays.
