I’m in Dallas this weekend, attending my first AFI Dallas Film Festival. It’s kinda exactly how I imagined it: very Dallas and very AFI. People are having a good time, and the lineup is really strong. I’m running into a lot of filmmakers who had work at SXSW this year, which is always fun, and also running into festival circuit regulars like Variety‘s Mike Jones, filmmaker/journalist Elvis Mitchell, and AFI Fest’s Christian Gaines.
On Friday night, I didn’t watch any films, because I was busy watching the Texas Longhorns basketball team destroy Stanford during the South Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. Watching in Dallas, they were playing in Houston, and now they advance to San Antonio to play Memphis. Feels like Texas.
