If you must, see 'Paranoid Park'

On Friday, you should all be in Austin at SXSW. Just the way it goes. But, but, but if you must stay home and away from all the fun, then you should see Gus Van Sant’s Paranoid Park, which opens March 7 at the IFC Center in New York. I caught the film at Cannes, and I was blown away. I think it’s Van Sant’s best work in years: textured, nuanced, poetic, and haunting. It takes the abstract approach of Elephant and Gerry, but inserts a punk-rock vibe that feels natural. So, like I said, you’d really be better off going to SXSW on March 7 and catching the film afterwards. But, if your legs are broken or your flight is cancelled, well then you should go see Paranoid Park.
