CineVegas Lands on 10

CineVegas Lands on 10

The 10th annual CineVegas is underway in Sin City, and the first weekend was a typically vibrant affair. As usual, the festival united an impressive array of indie film industry heavyweights for an assortment of cinema, sun, and gambling. I’m on the Jackpot Jury, so I’ll save my thoughts on specific films for later, but the winners will be announced on Saturday, June 21 as CineVegas ends what seems like another great year. Here are some photos from the first few days:

(Shoreline Entertainment hosted a poker tournament in the Kingpin Suite at the Palms Hotel and Casino. This is the living/playing area of the amazing suite, complete with bowling alley and poker tables. And, on Sunday evening, lots of film folks.)

(Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock took a break from launching the new season of his F/X series, 30 Days, to come to Vegas and join the Documentary jury at the festival. Here he is, on Saturday afternoon by the hotel pool, with his young son Laken.)

(Actress/singer Bijou Phillips performed at a charity concert/party on Saturday night after the premiere of her film, Dark Streets.)

(At the festival’s official 10th anniversary party on Friday night, L.A. Times contributor Mark Olsen, left, chats with Spout blogger Karina Longworth, as we all notice that none other than Britney Spears has arrived to the poolside event.)

(Also noticing the Britney Spears hysteria on Friday night, are Mike Jones of Variety, Ted Sarandos of Netflix, and Chris Hyams from Bside. We all took turns walking by her bungalow, just to sneak a peek. And we felt a bit guilty, too.)

(Here’s the scene directly outside Britney’s bungalow, where gawkers passed by on a regular basis. The security was tight, with even more guys on guard than people inside the bungalow. It was all very ridiculous, but yes, I took a photo.)
