The Maddin children with their mother (Ann Savage)

If you’ve never seen a Guy Maddin film, you should start with this poetic autobiography. “My Winnipeg” showcases the director’s style and quirks without the squirm-inducing elements of some of his other films, such as “Tales from the Gimli Hospital” (1988) or “Dracula: Pages from a Virgin’s Diary” (2002), which can be saved for more advanced viewing.

Here is the initial rollout of theaters. The film is also available on IFC in Theaters from On Demand.
