Movie Pick: A Girl Cut in Two

Paul Gaudens (Benoit Magimel) and Gabrielle Deneige (Ludivine Sagnier) tangled in a complicated passion

Who is the blonde starlet to watch, with a movie opening this week? No, not ScarJo in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” but French actress Ludivine Sagnier in Claude Chabrol’s “A Girl Cut in Two.” Playing up-and-coming television personality Gabrielle Deneige, the magnetic actress tangles with two dangerous men–an older, married author and a younger, wealthy ruffian.

The 29-year-old has accumulated an impressive list of credits with top directors, including a breakout role in Ozon’s “Swimming Pool,” where she was the sexy counterpoint to Charlotte Rampling’s prim Englishwoman, unexpectedly sharing a summer house.
