‘Medicine’ and No Borders for Independent Film Week

'Medicine' and No Borders for Independent Film Week

Independent Film Week moved along with Monday night’s Opening Night Film, Barry Jenkins’ Medicine For Melancholy, and Opening Night Party at Strata. Strata was also the location for the Sunday night “No Borders” dinner, celebrating the Indepent Film Week program dedicated to bridging social and cultural gaps through filmmaking. Some pics from two nights and one space:

(At the Sunday dinner, here are two members from one of the buzzed-about projects at “No Borders,” Zeroes and Ones screenwriter Avi Zev Weider and producer Anne Hubbell.)

(“No Borders” coordinator Farihah Zaman, right, greets panelist Jonathan Shukat of Palm Star Entertainment.)

(Following their successful NYC premiere on Monday night, the gang from Medicine For Melancholy headed to Strata for the after-party. That’s where I found Medicine writer/director Barry Jenkins fighting off the advances of Medicine star Wyatt Cenac.)

(It’s a reunion! SXSW staffers Stephanie Noone, right, and Jarod Neece, center, are in town for Independent Film Week. Here they are at the Opening party with Jarod’s wife, Andrea.)

(Outside the party, here’s IFP executive director Michelle Byrd, chatting with filmmaker/new-media speaker Lance Weiler. Byrd and her team have had a busy week.)
