Earlier this month, I was honored to sit down with Arnaud Desplechin to discuss his new film A Christmas Tale. It was the second time I interviewed him (the first interview is HERE) and each time we talk, I grow more and more convinced that at some point in the near future, I’m going to have to beg him for some serious face time in order to thoroughly examine his work; It is so layered, so complex, my meagre 30 minutes hardly did the man’s films any justice. That said, I keep having to pinch myself that I am lucky enough to be given any time at all with an artist whom I so greatly admire. It’s an amazing privilege.
In addition to our conversation, portions of which will be appearing on indieWIRE in the coming days, I was able to ask a few fun questions about Arnaud’s influences and cinematic experiences at the tail end of our discussion. I compiled his answers and they are now available on the terrific Film In Focus site. Give that link a click, tell me what you think and stay tuned to indieWIRE and this blog for a more in-depth conversation about A Christmas Tale coming very, very soon.
