Slumdog Millionaire Dev Patel in Danny Boyle's SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.jpg

Slumdog Millionaire has been rated “R” “for some violence, disturbing images and language.”

This is ridiculous. Yes, there are some violent and/or disturbing scenes, but no more than recent PG-13 rated films like The Dark Knight, Cloverfield and Hellboy II. Just because something is based in reality (or a reality of “the other,” maybe?) doesn’t make its “disturbing images” any more or less disturbing.

Slumdog is an uplifting, message-based film that I’d easily consider a great film for entire families, more so than any of the examples I listed that got PG-13 ratings.

Hopefully, somehow, this won’t be the MPAA’s final answer. But I doubt it.
