Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. Tricky, Knowle West Boy
(A return to form for this Bristol trip-hop pioneer. Thumping, pumping tension underneath dub rhymes or tender vocals.)

2. Chad VanGaalen, Soft Airplane
(This Calgary native knows how to make something from nothing, with soft tones building into a complex folk-rock mix.)

3. Jenny Lewis, Acid Tongue
(Part Stevie Nicks, part Liz Phair. The Rilo Kiley singer commands some strong terrain with a little help from guests like Elvis Costello, Chris Robinson, and Zooey Deschanel.)

4. Thievery Corporation, Radio Retaliation
(The DC DJs are back with another proper studio album. It’s kinda more of the same from them, but that’s not such a bad thing with their use of worldbeat textures and sunny arrangements.)

5. TV on the Radio, Dear Science
(I already blogged about this album, but it’s so good, it deserves a second mention. This will be one of the best albums all year, no doubt. And, try to get the iTunes version, because there are a great number of bonus tracks that should have been on the original LP. It’s a magical mystery tour of noise-soul.)
